Pozzallo Proposal to Name Council Chamber After Patrizia Burrafato

Quintilia Celestri, who chairs Pozzallo's municipal council, has registered a proposal to dedicate its chamber to her predecessor, Patrizia Burrafato, and asks the executive to open the process.

Pozzallo Proposal to Name Council Chamber After Patrizia Burrafato

The president of Pozzallo's municipal council, Quintilia Celestri, registered a proposal on Friday 2 October to name the council chamber after Patrizia Burrafato, a former holder of the same office who died on 27 September. The document is addressed to the mayor, Roberto Ammatuna, and to the town's assessors and municipal councillors.

According to the Quotidiano di Ragusa and the Corriere di Ragusa, the proposal sets out three concrete steps for the municipal executive. The first is to open the administrative process formally. The second is to prepare the deliberative acts, together with the opinions required by the relevant rules and by prefectorial provisions on toponomastics. The third is to organise a public ceremony at which a commemorative plaque would be unveiled inside the chamber.

Radio RTM, reporting the document, says Celestri describes Burrafato as remembered both for her institutional role as council president and for a sustained commitment to social work, and that the initiative is meant to preserve the memory of a figure who deeply marked the life of the Pozzallo community. The same account attributes to the document the framing of balance, dialogue and listening as the pillars of Burrafato's daily conduct. In a partial quotation carried by the Quotidiano di Ragusa, Celestri writes that "this request represents the first act of a common commitment as institutions of our city".

The proposal follows Burrafato's death by five days and now rests with the municipal executive, which is being asked to complete the three steps. No response from Ammatuna's administration has been announced, and no timetable for a deliberation or for a public ceremony has been published.
