Ragusa’s ‘Donne che creano spazio’ Award Returns for a Second Edition

The Aula Consiliare of the Palazzo di Città in Ragusa is the council chamber that organisers describe as a place of democratic participation. On Tuesday 6 October 2026, at 17:00, it will host the second edition of the Premio “Donne che creano spazio”, promoted by the Consulta Femminile del Comune di Ragusa. Organisers say the setting is particularly significant, lending the ceremony the institutional value they believe such recognition merits. After the appreciation won by the first edition, reports in Ragusa describe the prize as consolidating into an appointment dedicated to valorising women who contribute daily to the community through commitment, competence and passion.

According to local reports, the award goes to women distinguished in the city’s civil, cultural, social, economic and sporting life. They include professionals, entrepreneurs, representatives of institutions, volunteers, and women of culture, art and music. Their individual names have not been announced. One recipient is known in advance: Passalacqua Ragusa Basket, the basketball team to be honoured as an example of sporting excellence and team spirit for carrying Ragusa’s name onto national and international courts.

The prize is now in its second edition. Its first outing received appreciation, according to the organisers’ account, and the second is presented as a continuation rather than a novelty. The award’s scope is deliberately broad: it does not single out one profession or one kind of public contribution, but gathers women from across the city’s civic, cultural, social, economic and sporting life into a single ceremony.

What remains undisclosed is the list of individual women to be called to the Aula Consiliare. Until 6 October, the only name attached to the second edition is a collective one—a basketball team—while the professionals, volunteers, artists and others will enter the chamber unnamed in advance.
