UIL di Ragusa presses for reopening timetable after Scicli post office closure

The post office on Corso Mazzini in Scicli has closed, and the UIL di Ragusa says the shutdown is causing significant disruption to residents, businesses and workers. The union has taken up the issue and is asking to be told the timescale for the interventions on the building and for the reopening of the branch. Radio RTM places the development in Scicli on 30 September 2026.

According to the UIL, the safety of the premises is an undisputed priority. The union argues, however, that maintenance and work on the buildings would have required planning and timeliness, precisely so that critical issues could not lead to the closure of a service it regards as essential to the area. Ragusa News framed the union's intervention as a question about why the closure had occurred.

Giovanni D'Avola, the UIL's regional confederal secretary, said: "Occorre adesso dare risposte alla comunità e, soprattutto, indicare tempi certi per la riapertura della sede" — answers must now be given to the community and, above all, a fixed timetable set for the reopening of the office.

The suspension of activity has made it harder to collect registered mail and to carry out ordinary postal operations, according to Radio RTM. The union describes citizens and workers as among those affected, alongside businesses, and Ragusa News reported the closure under a headline stating that elderly residents were being penalised.

The UIL frames the matter as one that cannot be handled in emergency terms alone. Its demand for a fixed timetable for reopening, rather than an improvised response, is the outstanding point on which the dispute currently turns.
