Vittoria: Villa Comunale at risk of degradation and Via Cavour's decline
The environmental association Fare Verde has organised a walk through Vittoria's Villa Comunale on 3 October, as Forza Italia's city secretary presses for a relaunch plan for Via Cavour.

Fare Verde, an environmental association, has called a "Passeggiata della salute" for Saturday 3 October at 17:00 through Vittoria's Villa Comunale, the city's principal green space. The association says the route is open to everyone and that the declining number of visitors is precisely the reason for holding it: with so few people using the Villa, it risks becoming an unsafe place and ending in degradation. Fare Verde states the principle that "a place that is lived in is a safe place", adding that the more people walk, run, read and play there, the more they deny space to those who want to turn it into a no-man's land. The association says the walk should not remain an isolated event.
Separately, Andrea La Rosa, the city secretary of Forza Italia, says Via Cavour is no longer the gathering point it once was for families and that young people are leaving the historic centre. He blames degradation, poor lighting and a lack of controls, and announces a series of meetings with trade associations to prepare a relaunch plan for the area. Speaking from his own experience as a father of two, he asks whether it is normal that getting young people out safely should require accompanying them to spaces that do not belong to the public life of the city, describing the situation as absurd and worrying. For decades, he says, Via Cavour was the street of shopping, appointments and strolling.
Behind both initiatives, Ragusa Libera describes a deteriorated political picture, with the approach of electoral consultations — municipal ones above all — producing what it calls permanent fibrillation. The outlet attributes this in part to the hesitancy of the larger parties, which it says lack the capacity and authority to put their candidates' names on the table and so clear the field of the small political operators it describes. The same account reports confusion across the spectrum, with figures moving from right to left and within the same coalitions, and people who had been opponents of the elected mayor later joining the majority and then, ahead of new elections, looking for a place. The outlet's headline refers to an internal war inside the MPA in Vittoria; the passage of the article available does not detail that dispute and frames the malaise as general.
The known next steps are limited. The Villa Comunale walk is scheduled for Saturday 3 October at 17:00. La Rosa says he will hold a series of meetings with trade associations to prepare a relaunch plan for Via Cavour, without dates being given in the material available. The date of the municipal elections is not stated in the coverage, which dates from early October 2026 and describes the consultations only as approaching.
