Carabinieri Sweep in Pozzallo Ends in One Arrest and Two Denunciations

Carabinieri units operating in Pozzallo, in the province of Ragusa, carried out a coordinated sweep of the town that concluded with one arrest and two denunciations, according to accounts published by six Sicilian news outlets. The same reports put the operational tally at 17 cars checked, 20 people identified, three sanctions for violations of the highway code and two vehicles seized. No injuries were reported and no source describes any incident prompting the deployment beyond the stated targeting of weapons legislation and road-code breaches.

The arrest concerned a 41-year-old man from Pozzallo, traced by Carabinieri of the local station, who was served with a carceration order issued by the Procura Generale della Repubblica presso la Corte d'Appello di Catania. According to the reports, the order rendered definitive penalties relating to several episodes between 2021 and 2024 connected to drug legislation. The man was taken to Ragusa prison, where the sources say he must serve a residual sentence of two years and one month, together with a fine of 20,800 euros.

The two denunciations are separate matters. A Tunisian citizen resident in Pozzallo was reported to the judicial authority in Ragusa after being found walking in the street in possession of a knife with a seven-centimetre blade, the sources state. A 19-year-old resident of Pozzallo was reported to the Procura di Ragusa, described as gravely suspected of having driven his car for the second time in two years while his licence was revoked and therefore without any title permitting him to drive. The reports record the denunciations but give no subsequent judicial outcome for either man.

The operation is described as having been ordered by the Comando Provinciale di Ragusa and as involving Carabinieri from the Pozzallo station, the Nucleo Operativo e Radiomobile of the Compagnia di Modica and the Ispica station. Attention is said to have concentrated on the town's busier areas and those affected by the local nightlife. Sources diverge on timing: one outlet dates the activity to 3 October 2026, while the others refer only to recent days. One outlet's phrasing also differs slightly on the circumstances of the 19-year-old's licence, without altering the substance of the report.

As reported, the arrested man is in Ragusa prison serving the residual sentence, and the two denunciations stand on the record. The sources describe no further developments and no additional charges arising from the checks themselves.
