Modica hospital to open six-bed short-stay observation unit on 6 October
A six-bed Osservazione Breve Intensiva area opens at Modica's Maggiore-Baglieri hospital on Tuesday 6 October to support the Pronto Soccorso, according to local outlets.

The six-bed Osservazione Breve Intensiva (O.B.I.) area at Modica's Maggiore-Baglieri hospital is to be activated on Tuesday 6 October at 10.00, on the first floor of pavilion A. The unit is intended to strengthen the response capacity of the town's Pronto Soccorso, handling patients who, after a first assessment, need further tests or a period of monitoring, according to Ragusa Oggi, Ragusa News and Corriere di Ragusa.
The work involved refurbishing the premises through an intervento in economia, financed from the local health authority's budget, the bilancio aziendale. Ragusa Libera, Radio RTM, Ragusa H24 and Corriere di Ragusa report that the rooms are fully adequate under workplace safety and fire rules and are fitted with medical gas systems and electrical installations compliant with current regulations.
The same outlets state that a doctor will be assigned specifically to the area's functions, reinforcing patient intake and the organisation of the service. The unit is described throughout as a capacity measure for the existing emergency department rather than a new facility.
Radio RTM's announcement was dated 1 October, and Ragusa Oggi carried further items on 2 October. The milestone to watch is the scheduled activation at the hospital on the morning of Tuesday 6 October.
